Why a program helps at a fiftieth

Once you have speeches, a meal and possibly a slideshow, a printed running order stops the evening drifting. It also tells guests when they can safely go outside for ten minutes, which everyone appreciates and nobody says out loud.

Six to eight weeks. Fiftieths often involve guests travelling and staying overnight.

What goes in a 50th birthday program?

Arrival and drinks, welcome, meal courses, speeches with the names of who is speaking, cake, then dancing or open floor. Keeping it to one card is enough.

How do I organise speeches?

Three, maximum, at four minutes each. Write the order on a card and give it to whoever is compering.

What is a good keepsake?

Memories cards on each table, collected in a box. Fifty years produces enough material that these are genuinely worth reading.
