Printed or digital?

Digital costs nothing to send, arrives instantly, and cannot be lost in a school bag. Printed invitations get put on a fridge and taken more seriously, which matters for weddings and milestone birthdays. Every design works both ways, and plenty of people do both: post to older relatives, message everyone else.

What every invitation needs

Who it is for, the date, the start time, the full address, and how to RSVP with a deadline. That is the whole list. Everything else — dress code, gift preferences, parking — is optional and goes at the bottom in smaller type.

Invitation questions

What size are the templates?

Most are 5x7 inches, which fits A7 envelopes and is the standard invitation size. Some come at 4x6, which posts more cheaply.

How far ahead should invitations go out?

Three to four weeks for a casual party, four to six for a baby or bridal shower, six to eight for a wedding, and three months for anything requiring flights.

What paper should I print on?

250 to 300 gsm cardstock. Two invitations fit on one letter or A4 sheet, so you cut down the middle.

Can I add a photo?

Yes. Upload it in Canva and drop it into any image frame in the design.

Do I need a paid Canva account?

No. Every template works on a free account.

Can I change the wording completely?

Yes. Every line is an editable text box, so you can rewrite the whole card if you want.
