Recipe cards are the underrated one
Ask guests to bring a filled-in recipe card with the invitation. It takes them two minutes, it costs nothing, and the couple ends up with a box of recipes from the people who fed them growing up. It is consistently the thing brides say they still have years later.
Bridal shower questions
Who hosts a bridal shower?
Traditionally the maid of honour and the bridal party, though family often co-hosts. What matters more is that whoever hosts checks the guest list against the wedding list — nobody should be at the shower who is not invited to the wedding.
When should it be?
One to three months before the wedding. Close enough to feel connected to it, far enough that the bride is not already dealing with final-week logistics.
How is it different from a bachelorette party?
A shower is usually daytime, mixed generations, gifts and games. A bachelorette is a night out or a weekend away with friends. Many brides have both, and the guest lists overlap only partly.
How long should it run?
Two to three hours. Food, two or three games, presents, cake.
Do guests bring gifts?
Yes, usually from the wedding registry. Some hosts nominate a theme such as kitchen or lingerie, which is worth stating on the invitation.
