The one thing that matters: paper
Watercolour designs are the most paper-sensitive on this site. On glossy stock the soft washes look flat and slightly plastic, because gloss reflects light off exactly the areas that are meant to be delicate. On matte cardstock the same file looks like paint.
If you buy one thing for a watercolour print run, buy matte 300 gsm. It makes more difference than the printer does.

Why do my colours look washed out?
Two usual causes. Draft print mode, which lays down less ink, or gloss paper. Switch to Best quality on matte stock and the difference is dramatic.
Can I change the watercolour colours?
Only where the artwork is a separate element. Watercolour washes are usually flattened into the background image, so pick a design in the palette you want rather than planning to recolour it.
Does watercolour print well at poster size?
Yes, as long as you export as PDF Print. Watercolour enlarges gracefully because the edges are soft to begin with.
Is it too soft for a formal event?
In deep tones such as navy, burgundy or forest green, watercolour reads as rich rather than delicate and works at formal weddings.
Can I combine it with minimalist type?
Yes, and it is one of the better pairings. A single watercolour wash with clean serif type avoids the theme tipping into twee.
