Printable Engagement Party Templates

An engagement party is the first time both families and both friend groups are in one room. It is lower stakes than the wedding and usually more relaxed, but it still needs an invitation that tells people what kind of event it is.

Everything is editable in Canva.

What's in this collection

  • Engagement party invitations, with or without a photo
  • Welcome signs and photo display signs
  • Guest book and well wishes cards
  • Menus, food labels and drinks signs
  • Games — how well do you know the couple, advice cards, date night ideas
  • Thank you cards

Setting expectations on gifts

Guests often do not know whether to bring something. If you do not want gifts, say so on the invitation — "no gifts, just bring yourselves" is clear and saves everyone the guesswork. If you do have a registry, most couples hold it back until the wedding invitation.

Engagement party questions

When should an engagement party be held?

Within a few months of getting engaged, and generally at least six months before the wedding so the two events do not blur together.

Who hosts it?

Traditionally the bride's parents, though in practice the couple hosts as often as not, sometimes with both families sharing the cost.

Who should be invited?

Only people who will also be invited to the wedding. The same rule as a shower, and for the same reason.

How formal should it be?

Anything from a garden barbecue to a restaurant dinner. Say which on the invitation, because guests will otherwise arrive in the wrong clothes.

When should invitations go out?

Three to four weeks before, or six weeks if guests are travelling.

Do we need a photo on the invitation?

Not required, but engagement photos are common on them and give the card something to be about.
