Printable Wedding Menus

A menu at each place setting does two things: it tells guests what is coming so nobody panics about a dietary requirement, and it makes a bare table look finished. It is also the cheapest piece of wedding stationery to produce yourself, since it is one small card per guest.

All templates are editable in Canva. Type in your courses, adjust the fonts, and print.

Menu formats

  • Individual menu cards — 4x9 or 5x7, one per place setting, the most common choice
  • Shared table menus — one larger card per table, cheaper and less to print
  • Menu and place card combined — the guest's name at the top of their menu, which saves you a separate card
  • Bar and drinks menus — a framed sign for the bar rather than per guest

How to write it

Name each course, then describe the dish in a line. Keep descriptions to one line — restaurant-length prose looks overwrought on a wedding table. If you are serving a choice, mark which is which clearly, and put dietary symbols in a small legend at the bottom rather than after each dish.

Wedding menu questions

How many menus do we need?

One per guest for individual cards, or one per table for shared. Individual cards look better; shared cards cost a fraction and nobody complains.

What size should a menu card be?

4x9 inches is the classic tall menu shape and fits neatly on a place setting. 5x7 works if you have a lot of text.

What paper should we print on?

250 to 300 gsm cardstock. A menu that flops over when leaned against a glass undoes the effect entirely.

When should we print them?

After the final tasting and once the caterer confirms the dishes, usually two to three weeks out. Menus are the item most likely to change late.

Should we list dietary information?

Yes, at least a simple legend for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free. It saves your catering staff a lot of questions during service.

Can we match the menu to our invitations?

Yes. Duplicate the invitation in Canva and rebuild the menu using the same fonts and colours.
