Letters rather than speeches
At a ninetieth, asking guests to write a short letter beforehand often works better than speeches on the day. They can be read aloud in a few minutes, or simply given as a bound collection, and it means people who cannot travel still take part.
90th birthday questions
How should I plan around energy levels?
Keep it to two hours, seat everyone, and do the important parts — cake, speeches, photographs — in the first hour while the guest of honour is at their best.
How far ahead should invitations go out?
Six to eight weeks by post.
What about guests who cannot attend?
Ask them to send a card or a short letter to be read out or included in a memories book. It is often the part the guest of honour values most.
What print size should I use?
Fourteen point or larger on programs and menus. Signs at 16x20 or bigger.
Should I include a memorial line?
Many families do at this age. Ask the guest of honour first — some want it, some very much do not.
Can I reuse these for a 100th?
Yes. Change the number in Canva and everything else stays as it is.
