Printable Advice & Well Wishes Cards

Advice cards are the guest book replacement that actually gets read. A signed book gets opened once; a box of cards where each person answered a real question gets returned to for years.

All editable in Canva.

What's in this collection

  • Advice for the parents — baby showers
  • Advice for the newlyweds — weddings and bridal showers
  • Wishes for baby — a message for the child to read later
  • Well wishes cards for graduations, retirements and milestone birthdays
  • Date night idea cards — the couple gets a year of plans
  • Memories cards for retirements and big birthdays
  • Time capsule cards — sealed and opened on a future date

Why prompts beat blank cards

Hand someone a blank card and ask for advice and you will get “sleep when the baby sleeps” forty times over. Ask a specific question and the answers change completely.

Prompts that work: the thing nobody told me about the first month. One thing you would do differently. The best piece of advice you ignored. What I hope you argue about. Something you know now that you did not at their age.

Getting people to fill them in

Put them somewhere people pass more than once, with pens and a box. Then ask out loud. Left unmentioned, roughly half the room walks past a table of cards without registering what it is for.

Advice card questions

How many should I print?

One per guest plus ten. People make mistakes and start again, and some write two.

What paper should I use?

250 gsm cardstock. These get stored for years, and thin paper does not survive a box in a loft.

What size?

5x7 or 4x6. Big enough for a real message, small enough not to intimidate.

What do I do with them afterwards?

A ring binder, a keepsake box, or an album with pockets. Time capsule cards go in a sealed envelope with the opening date on the front.

Do they work for a virtual event?

Yes. Send the card as a PDF and ask guests to fill it in and post or photograph it.
