Gold is the shortcut to formal. Black and gold, navy and gold, or white and gold instantly reads as a dressed-up event, which is why it dominates milestone birthdays, New Year parties and anything with a black-tie line on the invitation.

How gold actually prints
This is the part worth understanding before you buy. Home printers cannot print metallic ink. What you get is a yellow-brown that reads as gold in context but does not shine.
Three ways around it, in order of cost:
- Print on gold or pearlescent cardstock and let the paper do the shimmering. Cheapest and very effective.
- Choose a design with gold foil texture painted into the artwork, so the highlights read as metallic on ordinary paper.
- Order real foil printing from a print shop. Genuinely metallic, and priced accordingly.

Why does my gold print look brown?
Because it is yellow ink on white paper with no metallic component. Print on gold-tinted or pearlescent stock instead and it reads correctly.
What colours pair with gold?
Black for maximum formality, navy for something slightly softer, white or cream for a lighter look, and burgundy or emerald for winter events.
Is gold suitable for a wedding?
Yes, particularly evening and winter weddings. For a daytime garden wedding it can read heavy.
What paper should I use?
250 to 300 gsm. Pearlescent or lightly shimmered stock if you want the metallic effect without foil printing.
Can I change gold to rose gold or silver?
On editable elements, yes. On fixed background artwork, no, so pick a design already in the metal you want.
