Printable Birthday Invitations

Birthday invitations you edit yourself and have ready the same evening. Add the name, age, date, time and address, then either print them or send the file straight to parents and friends by text.

Because you are buying a template rather than a print run, adding three more children to the guest list the week before costs nothing extra.

Printed or digital?

For a children's party, a digital invite in the class WhatsApp group reaches every parent and nobody loses it in a school bag. For an adult milestone birthday, a printed invitation signals that the event is worth putting in the diary. Every design works both ways.

What to include on a birthday invitation

  • Whose birthday it is, and the age if you want to say
  • Date, start time and — for kids' parties — end time, which parents genuinely need
  • Venue name and full address
  • RSVP name, contact and deadline
  • Anything practical: bring a swimsuit, no gifts please, allergy notes

Birthday invitation questions

How far in advance should I send birthday invitations?

Three to four weeks for a regular party, six to eight weeks for a milestone birthday where people may need to travel. For children's parties, earlier is better because weekends fill up fast.

Should I put an end time on the invitation?

For a children's party, yes. Parents plan around it and it keeps the day from stretching. For adult parties an end time is optional and often left off.

What size are the invitations?

Most are 5x7 inches, the standard invitation size, fitting an A7 envelope. Some designs also come as 4x6 which is cheaper to post.

How do I word an invitation when I do not want gifts?

A short line at the bottom does it: "Your presence is the present" for a light touch, or simply "No gifts please" if you would rather be direct.

Can I change the age or the theme colours?

Yes. Every number, word and colour is editable in Canva, so one design can work for a fifth birthday and a fiftieth.
