Minimalist designs are the easiest to personalise well and the hardest to make look cheap. With almost nothing on the page, everything rests on the typography and the spacing, which is exactly why they photograph well and why they suit events across every occasion on this site.

What minimalist means here
- One or two typefaces, no more
- A restricted palette of black, white, cream and one accent at most
- Generous margins and a lot of empty space
- Text doing the work rather than decoration
Editing without breaking it
The most common way a minimalist template gets ruined is by adding things. If your text does not fill the space, that is the design working, not a gap to be filled. Two other rules worth keeping: do not add a third font, and do not shrink the margins to fit longer wording. Shorten the wording instead.
Where it works
Everywhere, which is the appeal. Modern weddings, adult birthdays, engagement parties, corporate events, and any occasion where you want the venue and the flowers to be the visual interest rather than the paper.
Minimalist theme questions
Is minimalist too plain for a wedding?
Not on good paper. A minimal invitation on heavy textured cardstock reads as expensive; the same design on thin paper reads as unfinished. Stock choice carries the whole effect here.
What fonts work?
A clean serif for headings with a simple sans for details, or one typeface used at two weights. Avoid script fonts entirely.
What paper should I use?
300 gsm, matte, in white or a warm off-white. Textured or cotton stock if you can find it, since there is nothing else on the page to look at.
Can I add one colour?
Yes, and one is the limit. A single accent such as sage, navy or terracotta on an otherwise black-and-white design works well.
Does minimalist work for a baby shower?
Yes, and it is a good alternative when the parents dislike anything pastel or cartoonish.
