Printable Menu Templates
A menu card tells guests what is coming, flags anything they need to avoid, and makes a table look finished. It is also the cheapest piece of event stationery to produce, since it is one small card per person.

How to write a menu
Name the course, then describe the dish in one line. Restaurant-length prose looks overwrought on a home table. If you are serving a choice, mark the options clearly and put dietary symbols in a small legend at the bottom rather than repeating them after every dish.
Menu questions
How many menus do I need?
One per guest for individual cards, or one per table for shared. Individual cards look better; shared cards cost a fraction and nobody has ever complained.
What size should a menu be?
4x9 inches is the classic tall menu shape and sits well on a place setting. 5x7 if you have a lot of text. 8x10 in a frame for a buffet sign.
What paper should I use?
250 to 300 gsm cardstock. A menu that flops over when leaned against a glass defeats the point.
When should I print them?
A few days before, once you know what you are actually serving. Menus are the item most likely to change late.
Should I list allergens?
Yes, at minimum a legend for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and nuts. It saves a lot of questions during service.
Can I match the menu to my invitations?
Yes. Duplicate the invitation in Canva and rebuild the menu with the same fonts and colours.
