Printable Party Banners
A banner is the backdrop for every photo taken at a party, which makes it worth more attention than it usually gets. Printable banners cost a fraction of a custom one and let you spell exactly what you want, including names and ages that no shop stocks.
Types of banner
- Letter banners — individual pennants you print, cut and string, so you can spell anything
- Single panel banners — printed as one strip at a print shop, no cutting or assembly
- Photo banners — a photo per year or per milestone, strung across a table
- High chair banners for first birthday cake smashes
- Bunting and garland in themed shapes
Assembling a letter banner
Print on 250 to 300 gsm cardstock. Cut along the guides, punch two holes at the top corners, thread ribbon or bakers twine through. Leave about four inches between letters, and use roughly twice the finished length in string so it hangs with a curve rather than a taut line.
Budget twenty minutes for a short banner and closer to an hour for something like "HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY DAVID". Measure your wall before deciding on the wording.
Banner questions
How long will my banner be?
Roughly six inches per letter including spacing. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" comes out around seven feet.
What paper should I use?
250 gsm minimum. Standard printer paper curls and sags within an hour in a warm room.
How do I hang it?
Small adhesive hooks or washi tape at each end, taping the string rather than the cardstock. Command strips hold better than pins in rented spaces.
Can I avoid the cutting?
Yes. Choose a single panel design and have a print shop produce it as one continuous strip.
Can I reuse a banner?
Generic wording like "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" stores flat and reuses fine. Anything with a name and a year is single use.
Do I need a special printer?
No. Letter banners print on ordinary letter or A4 sheets, several pennants per page.
