What separates modern from minimalist
Minimalist removes things. Modern rearranges them. A minimalist invitation is centred, small and quiet. A modern one might set the names in huge type across a corner, run the date sideways up the edge, and use a colour combination nobody would have chosen ten years ago.
If you want the paper to disappear, choose minimalist. If you want it to be the thing people comment on, choose modern.

Will a modern design suit older guests?
Legibility is the thing to watch. Oversized type is fine; very low contrast colour pairings and tiny detail text are not. Keep the practical details at a readable size.
What fonts work?
One strong display face for the names, one clean sans for everything else. Two fonts total.
What paper should I use?
Smooth 300 gsm, matte. Modern designs use large blocks of flat colour, and texture breaks them up in a way that looks like a printing fault.
Will large colour blocks print well at home?
Not always. Solid colour across a full card can band or streak on a home inkjet. For designs with heavy colour coverage, a print shop is worth the few dollars.
Can I use modern for a baby shower?
Yes, and it is a good option for parents who dislike pastels. Bold type with one strong colour works well.
