First Communion Invitation Templates to Edit in Canva

A First Communion is a day families remember for years, and the invitation is often the first thing guests keep. Our First Communion invitation templates are fully editable in Canva: change the name, date, church and celebration details, then print or share. You get instant access after purchase, and a free Canva account is enough.

There are five designs to choose from, each sized for US Letter. They include a gold chalice, a white dove with an olive branch, a greenery cross, a black and white rose border, and an illustration of a boy walking with Jesus.

Boy Gold Chalice

The chalice is one of the most recognized symbols of First Holy Communion, and this design gives it pride of place in warm gold tones. It has a classic, slightly formal feel that suits a traditional church service. Although it is labeled for boys, you can recolor the accents and text in Canva to make it suit a girl, or keep the gold and pair it with soft neutrals.

White Dove with olive branch

The white dove carrying an olive branch stands for peace and the Holy Spirit. This design is gentle and calm, with plenty of space around the wording, and it works equally well for boys and girls. It is a good choice if you want one invitation for twins or siblings receiving Communion together, since you can simply list both names.

Greenery Cross

Fresh green leaves frame a simple cross in this watercolor design. It feels light and natural, which makes it a nice match for a spring celebration, a garden lunch or a party at home after Mass. The green palette is easy to coordinate with white flowers and table linens if you are decorating for the day.

Girl Rose Border

This black and white design uses a vintage-style rose border for a timeless look. Without strong colors, it photographs well and fits almost any dress or decor. If you prefer a touch of color, you can change the text to blush or soft gold in Canva while keeping the elegant line work.

Boy Walking with Jesus

This illustrated design shows a boy walking alongside Jesus, giving the invitation a warm, storybook quality that children often love. It is a meaningful option for families who want the invitation to reflect the spiritual side of the day rather than only the party. The soft illustration also looks lovely framed afterwards as a keepsake.

What to write on a First Communion invitation

Include your child's name, the words "First Holy Communion" or "First Communion," the date and time of Mass, the church name and address, and reception details. Add an RSVP contact and date. A short line such as "Please join us as Lucas receives Jesus for the first time" sets a warm tone. Send invitations four to six weeks ahead.
